Kick-Up-Your-Heels Dancing Hearts

STYROFOAM* Brand Products:

2 Balls, 1 1/2"
4 Balls, 1"
1 Sheet, 1" x 12" x 18"
Other Materials:
1- 5/16" dowel, 36" long
Acrylic craft paint, red
Craft foam: white, pink, black
1- 3/8" half-round buttons, black
2- 1/2" red beads
1 yd. of 1/8" satin ribbon, black
Curling ribbon, red shiny
1 Feather craft boa, red
Toothpicks
Coping saw
Sand paper
Sharp pencil
Paint brushes: large and medium
Heart stickers, optional
Thick, white craft glue and/or low temperature glue gun and glue sticks |

| INSTRUCTIONS: |
| 1. Cut dowel into four 3" lengths (arms) and four 4" lengths (legs). Sand rough edges. Cut two 1 1/2" balls in half (feet). Cut a 9" x 6 3/4" oval from 1" foam sheet (base). |
| 2. Paint foam hearts, foam balls, arms and legs with red paint. (Hints: Insert toothpicks into small balls to use as handles while painting. Insert toothpicks and dowels into scrap of foam while drying.) |
| 3. Using patterns, cut eyes and mouths from white craft foam; eyebrows from black craft foam; and cheeks from pink craft foam. Using low temperature glue, glue red bead into center of each heart for a nose. With white craft glue, glue facial features onto hearts. Glue buttons in eyes, positioned so the two hearts will look towards each other. |
4. Assemble bodies, working on both hearts simultaneously so you can arrange the arms and legs to compliment each other. Assemble first without glue so you can adjust as necessary. When attaching arms and legs to hearts, start holes with a sharp pencil so dowels will slip in more easily. Assembly:
a. Attach legs to feet, carefully following Diagram A for angle of legs and feet.
b. Push inside legs into edge of hearts near point. When the foot is held flat, the heart should lean backwards.
c. Glue the outer legs into the front of hearts at an angle so they cross over the inside leg and point toward the center.
d. Push arms into the sides of the hearts at the same level as the eyes. Arrange arms so that the inner arms are horizontal and can touch each other and the outer arms point up and away from hearts.
e. Glue inner hands together with low temperature glue.
f. Glue inner feet to the base using a generous amount of glue and toothpicks between pieces. |
| 5. Tie 9" lengths of 1/8" ribbon around each leg, right above feet. Tie a bow in 1/2" ribbon and glue onto "chin" of "boy" heart. Glue feather boa around "girl" heart. |
| 6. Glue on hair made from curling ribbon, using longer lengths for the girl. |
| 7.Decorate base with heart stickers (optional). |
**If 6" hearts are not available, pattern is provided to cut hearts from a 1" sheet of STYROFOAM brand foam.
