Plaid Pine Tree Wall Hanging

| MATERIALS NEEDED: |
STYROFOAM* Brand Foam:
Sheet, 18" x 12" x 1"
Other Materials:
Plaid cotton fabrics, 45" wide, 1/3 yd. each: red/black; red/green; green
Solid fabric scraps: brown cotton; white velour
Red satin ribbon, 1/8" x 1/2 yd.
Thin gold braided cord, 3/8 yd.
Small putty knife
Fine-line black permanent marker
Pencil
Ruler
Scissors
Straight pins
Thick, white craft glue

| INSTRUCTIONS: |
| 1. Enlarge pattern 200% and make duplicate copy. Place full-size pattern on foam sheet. Use ruler and sharp pencil to draw over pattern lines, making slight depressions in foam. |
| 2. Cut apart duplicate pattern into separate patterns for trees, trunks, snow background, and borders. |
| 3. Using photo as color and placement guide, cut out fabric pieces, adding 1/4" all around for tucking. For added visual interest, cut some tree pieces on an angle. For border pieces, cut strips 3-1/4" wide so they will wrap to back. |
| 4. Beginning at center and working out, attach fabric to foam as follows: center one fabric piece on top of corresponding foam area; position putty knife on scored pattern line; push 1/4"-wide "seam allowance" into foam. Note: For clean edge, hold knife at 90° angle to foam. |
| 5. If excess fabric sticks out above foam, and does not disappear when second fabric piece is pushed in along same line, trim excess fabric. Repeat to cover entire area inside borders. |
| 6. To cover borders, push in 1/4" of border fabric along inside edge; wrap excess to back. Glue and pin fabric at back of foam so it is smooth. Fold and pin corner pieces flat at back, like making hospital corners on a bed. |
| 7. For back, cut 9" x 17-3/4" rectangle from fabric of choice; glue to back of wall hanging. |
| 8. Glue and pin ends of red ribbon to top back corners for hanger. |
| 9. Cut gold cord into three equal lengths. Tie each length into small bow; glue to treetops. |
