INSTRUCTIONS:
Teardrop Ornament
1. Glue wide ends of foam cones together.
2. Follow manufacturer's instructions to fuse sheet adhesive to wrong side of fabrics. Using patterns, cut one top and one bottom ornament lining from adhesive-backed velvet. Remove paper backings and apply velvet to corresponding half of foam, overlapping edges slightly and letting fabric extend beyond tips.
3. Tie ribbon around excess fabric at top of ornament to close.
4. Using patterns, cut two top and two bottom panels from adhesive-backed satin or brocade. Remove paper backings and apply top panels to top half of ornament on opposite sides. Repeat to apply bottom panels aligned below top panels.
5. Pin or glue braid, cord, or pearls horizontally around center of ornament and vertically to edges of satin/brocade panels, covering seams.
6. Tie ribbon around excess fabric at bottom of ornament to close. Glue tassel, suspended from center bottom.
7. Form a small multi-loop bow and glue to top of ornament. Fill in with ribbon roses as desired.
8. Thread needle with fine gold cord and sew through top of ornament. Remove needle and knot cord ends together to form hanger.
Ball Ornament
1. Mark center top and bottom of ball. Divide ball into four equal sections by placing two rubber bands around foam, crisscrossing them at top and bottom. Mark sections with a pencil, indenting the foam as you draw.
2. Using patterns, cut out ornament sections as follows: four small from felt; two large from velvet; and two large from contrasting satin or brocade.
3. Glue felt to center of each section marked on foam ball to pad overlaying fabrics.
4. Cover felt padding with large ornament sections, alternating velvet and satin/brocade fabrics. Center fabric over corresponding area on ball, using your fingers to help feel indentations in foam. Position putty knife on fabric directly over scored line. Holding knife straight up and down, push seam allowance into foam along scored line. The straighter you hold knife, the neater your resulting seam. Gently smooth fabric into indentations along each edge. Note: Excess fabric will be trimmed later. Continue until entire ball is covered.
5. Carefully trim away excess fabric with small, extra-sharp scissors. Tuck any stray edges into seam lines with tip of serrated knife.
6. Using photo as a guide, pin or glue braid, cord, or pearls to edges of ornament sections to cover seams.
7. Follow Steps 7-8 of Teardrop Ornament to finish.
