INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Feet: Cut foam egg in half lengthwise. (Hint: For smoother cuts, wax the blade with an old candle.) Trim each half to tightly fit in shoe. Slip 1/2 egg into sock and glue in shoe; it should fit snugly. Repeat with other shoe.
2. Legs: Insert 12" dowel in sock and glue one end into heel of foot; glue securely. Repeat with other foot. Make sure legs are straight.
3. Body: With knife or 1/2" drill bit, cut holes in bottom of plastic pumpkin bucket, 2" apart for legs. Cut 1" slice off top and bottom of 5" ball; glue ball to bottom of bucket, covering holes. Let dry. Insert and glue dowel legs through holes and into foam base. The legs should stand 10" tall from the tabletop to the bottom of the pumpkin.
4. Head: To form nose, cut notches on the remaining 5" ball as shown in Diagram 1. Round the edges by sanding with scrap piece of foam. Lay the head, nose down, in center of an 18" square of peach felt. Securely glue felt around nose. When dry, tightly pull remaining felt to center back of head. Wire tightly and cut off excess felt. Fold excess ends back to head and glue. Poke a small hole in the head for the neck and insert and glue the remaining length of dowel. Insert and glue the other end of the dowel into the foam base in pumpkin bucket. The head should sit just above the bucket opening.
5. Arms: Roll the 1 1/2" foam balls to form cylinders. Cut an 18" length of 16-gage wire; fold over 1/2" on each end. Glue and insert wire ends into foam cylinders, forming hands. Lay one hand in center of a 6" square of peach felt; tightly pull felt around hand and wire at wrist with 26-gauge wire. Wrap excess wire around excess felt, binding it tightly to the wire arm. Repeat for other hand.
6. Sleeves: Glue together long edges of 8" x 18" piece of plum felt, forming an 18" tube. When dry, turn right side out and slip arms inside. Wire the center of the sleeves to the arms. Wire and glue the center of the arms to the back of the neck dowel, just under the head.
7. Gown: Cut an 8" x 20" piece of plum felt as shown in Diagram 2. Gather the long edge with the slits in it. Place the gown on the witch and push the length into the pumpkin bucket. Pull the gathers tightly around the neck and knot.
8. Collar: Blanket stitch around a 2" x 16" strip of plum felt using green thread (optional). Gather one long edge and place collar around the neck with opening in the front; pull the gathers tightly and knot.
9. Face: Glue eyes in place over nose. Cut two eyelids out of peach felt using Pattern A; glue in place. Blush cheeks and dot with freckles using marker. Draw a mouth and wart with black fabric paint.
10. Glue Spanish moss on head for hair; trim as necessary.
11. Cape: Blanket stitch around a 14" x 20 piece of plum felt using green thread (optional). Run a gathering thread 2" from one long edge. Place cape at back of witch's neck and pull gathering threads around the front of the neck. Tie threads into a tight bow. Spot glue the cape to the back of the witch as needed.
12. Glue the bat buttons to the shoes and the felt hat to the head. Cut leaves and decorations from fall pick and glue to hat for more color. Glue broom in witch's hand.
