INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Wax serrated knife with a candle stub or paraffin. Use knife to cut 1/4" from wide end of egg so it will stand upright.
2. Cut top off sock, leaving approximately 5" from toe to cut edge. Slide egg, wide end first, into sock and push until flush with toe. Gather sock at top of chick and wire to secure. Make several vertical cuts in gathered fabric. Pull and stretch clipped fabric to form a tuft of feathers.
3. Using photo as a guide, poke leg holes in bottom front of chick with a scissors tip. Cut two 3-1/4" lengths from the wooden dowel and glue in holes for legs.
4. Using patterns, cut two wings from reserved sock fabric. Also cut beak and feet as indicated.
5. Paint chick body, legs, and wings pineapple. (Note: If using yellow sock, you do not need to paint the body, legs and wings.) Paint beak and feet bosenberry pink. Let dry.
6. Dip paintbrush handle in lamp black to dot two eyes close together. Let dry. With a toothpick, dot white highlights on eyes and black highlights on beak. Drybrush cheeks with boysenberry pink to blush.
7. Glue wings to sides of chick with tips pointing down. Glue beak centered just below eyes and feet to ends of legs.
8. Draw tiny eyebrows and smile lines extending from top of beak with black marking pen.
9. Tie fabric strip in a small bow and glue to center top of chick just below tuft of feathers.
