INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Use marker to draw field and stripes on heart.
2. Trace foam heart onto wrong side of red/white/blue star-print fabric. Cut out heart, adding 3/4" seam allowance. Center and spot glue fabric to back of heart. Clip seam allowance at 3/4" intervals; glue tabs to edge of heart.
3. Use rotary cutter, cutting mat, and yardstick to cut 3" x 45" strip from solid blue fabric; set aside. Cut all remaining fabrics into 3" squares. Note: Using scissors to cut fabrics will extend completion time.
4. Spread white glue over small area on front of heart. Using photo as placement guide, center pencil point in one fabric square, then punch fabric into heart about 1/2". Repeat to cover area. Punch in two fabric squares per linear inch; place rows 1/2" apart. At heart edges, punch fabric in at angle. Fill any gaps with extra squares. Note: Stars on blue field are seven squares of white-on-white print.
5. With right side out, fold long edges of 3" x 45" blue strip to meet at center; press. Overlapping ends 1/2", glue strip around edge of heart; trim excess.
6. Sand all wooden stars. Apply two coats of paint to stars; let dry, and sand, between coats. Paint as follows: one small, one medium, and two large blue; two medium and two large red; two medium and three large white. Apply one coat varnish to stars; let dry.
7. From red wire, cut one 33" length (hanger) and five 8" lengths. Cut five 8" lengths from white wire. Curl all wire lengths around pencil.
8. Use needle or awl to punch two holes in top edges of heart for hanger. Punch 10 holes, evenly spaced, along sides of heart for star wires. Glue wire ends into appropriate holes. Glue three stars to hanger and remaining stars to wires. Let dry completely.
