Spiced Apple Candle Ring

Materials Needed

STYROFOAM* Brand Foam:
Balls, six each: 2"; 1"
Sheet, scrap
Wreath, 12" x 2-1/4" x 2"

Other Materials:
Light brown acrylic paint
Brown chenille stems, four
Heavy cardboard, 12" square
Cinnamon sticks, 7", 30
Spices: ground cinnamon; whole cloves
Artificial red apples: large, 10; crab, 10; mini, six
Assorted silk greenery
Moss, small amounts: natural sheet; green reindeer
Sponge mushroom
Natural raffia
Floral supplies: wooden picks; U-pins
Serrated knife
Candle stub or paraffin
Pencil
Ruler
Sponge paintbrush
Disposable palette
Water basin
Paper towels
Scissors
Wire cutters
Low-temp glue gun and glue sticks
Thick, white craft glue

Instructions

Note: Never leave a burning candle unattended.

1. Insert floral pick into each foam ball. Holding picks, paint balls light brown. Insert picks into scrap foam; let dry.

2. Apply thin coat white glue to painted balls; sprinkle with ground cinnamon. Let dry. Insert equally-spaced whole cloves into balls, 1/4"–1/2" apart.

3. Trace foam wreath onto cardboard; cut out. Glue cardboard to bottom of wreath for reinforcement.

4. Wax serrated knife with candle stub or paraffin. Use knife to bevel upper edges of wreath. Cover exposed foam surfaces with sheet moss; secure with U-pins.

5. Use knife point to poke small hole in side of each large apple, varying placement. Glue floral picks into holes. Using photo as guide, glue apple picks into wreath.

6. Holding five or six cinnamon sticks together, wrap center with chenille stem to secure. Repeat to make four bundles. Glue floral pick to each bundle; glue picks into wreath between large apples.

7. Cut greenery into small bunches; spot glue greenery around apples and cinnamon bundles. Glue cinnamon balls into wreath as shown.

8. In same way as large apples, poke holes and glue picks into crab apples. Glue apples into wreath.

9. Cut several 6" lengths from raffia; bend each length into 3" loop and glue to floral pick. Insert raffia loops among apples and cinnamon bundles. Insert and glue one end of remaining cinnamon sticks into wreath.

10. Break sponge mushroom into pieces and glue into wreath as desired. Glue mini apples to open spaces. Glue small clumps of reindeer moss to wreath to fill spaces and hide glue.

11. Place desired candle into holder, inside hurricane shade, in center of wreath.
