Flag "Quick Tuck" Wallhanging

MATERIALS NEEDED:
STYROFOAM Brand Products:
1- 1" x 24" x 36" sheet or 1- 1" x 12"x 36" sheet

Other Materials:
44/45" wide cotton fabric:
1- 3/4yd. solid white
1- 9-1/2" x 12-3/4" solid denim blue
1- 1/3 yd.red bandana print, or red print of your choice
Thick white craft glue
1- 2-1/4 yd. of 7/8" light navy blue grosgrain ribbon
Sawtooth picture hanger and nails
8- round toothpicks or 2-1/2" floral picks with wires removed
Assortment of white buttons

Tools:
Fine line permanent marker
Serrated steak knife
Candle stub or paraffin
Scissors
Putty knife with 1-1/2" blade, or a #10 artist's painting knife
Sharp pencil
White chalk marking pencil
Low-temperature glue gun and glue sticks
Straight pins

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. To make rectangle, wax blade of knife and cut two 12" x 16-1/4" lengths from 1"x 12"x 36" sheet. Glue two pieces together along 16-1/4" edge, using glue and toothpicks between pieces. If using a larger 1"x 24"x 36" sheet, mark and cut a 24" x 16-1/4" piece.
2. Refer to diagram and use ruler and fine permanent marker to draw flag pattern on sheet of STYROFOAM. Using ruler and sharp pencil, score all lines.
3. Iron fabric and cut as follows:
bandanna print flag stripes:
4- 2" x 12-3/4"
3- 2" x 24-3/4"

solid white flag stripes:
3- 2" x 12-3/4"
3- 2" x 24-3/4"

denim blue field
1- 9-1/2" x 12-3/4"
solid white backing
1- 17" x 24-3/4"
4. To tuck wallhanging:
Begin with blue denim field.
b. Center fabric over appropriate scored design.
c. Position putty knife perpendicular to sheet of STYROFOAM. Place knife on scored line and push fabric seam allowance into STYROFOAM. Note: The tucking procedure works best when standing.
d. Trim excess with scissors.
e. Tuck in stray fabric with tip of serrated knife.
f. Glue seam allowances to edge of sheet.
5. Tuck stripes in order, following numbers on diagram.
6. To cover back:
Center fabric over back of sheet and pin in place.
b. Glue seam allowances to edge of sheet.
7. Glue grosgrain ribbon around edge of sheet.
8. Glue hanger to center back of wallhanging about 1" below top edge. Apply a small amount of glue to each of the two small nails. Push nails through holes in hanger and into sheet.
9. Arrange buttons on blue field as desired; glue in place.
