| INSTRUCTIONS: |
1. Feet:
a. Cut egg in half lengthwise.
b. Poke small hole in bottom of each foot at large end.
c. Glue a screw in hole for weight.
d. Center a foot on 8" square of navy felt (round side down). Pull felt up tightly and glue to back of foot. Trim excess felt from back of shoe. Glue 4" square to bottom of shoe. When dry, trim away excess felt.
e. Repeat for other shoe. |
2. Body:
a. Cut 15" square of navy felt. Cut in half to form triangle shape.
b. Lay cone on triangle with point of cone lined up with point of triangle.
c. Fold in triangle point and glue to cone.
d. Fold felt in toward cone and roll around it.
e. Glue side seam. (see Diagram 1) |
| 3. Insert 3" length of 16-gauge wire into narrow end of one foot. Glue in place. Poke small hole in point of cone to line up with foot (put seam in back). Glue and insert wire from foot into cone body. Allow to dry. (Diagram 2) |
4. Sleeves:
a. Cut two 2" x 8" pieces of white felt. Cut one 8" x 14" piece of navy felt.
b. Glue 1" of white felt to each 8" end of blue felt. Flip piece of felt over and glue remaining 1" of white felt to back of blue felt (cuffs).
c. Glue together the two long edges, forming sleeve.
d. When secure, flip sleeve piece inside out. (Diagram 3) |
5. Arms:
a. Fold over 1" on both ends of 16" length of gauge wire. Glue and insert one end into 2" ball.
b. Lay ball in center of 8" square of French Vanilla felt. Pull tightly and smoothly around ball and wire securely at wrist using 26-gauge wire.
c. Repeat for other hand, on other end of same arm wire.
d. Slip arms into sleeves.
e. Twist 9" length of 16-gauge wire around center of arm piece. Glue and insert into base of cone toward front. |
6. Head:
a. Fold 1 1/2" loop in end of 12" length of 16-gauge wire. Glue and insert looped wire into 4" ball.
b. Pull and gather 17" square of French Vanilla felt around head. Wire tightly at neck with 26-gauge wire.
c. Cut excess felt to 1" past gather. Glue to secure. Set aside. |
7. Trims:
a. Cut 3" x 18" triangle of red felt. Glue to front of cone with tip pointing down. Poke small hole into base of cone in front of arm piece. Glue head into hole.
b. Cut 2" x 18" length of white felt. Gather along one long edge with needle and thread. Pull up rightly, knot and glue around Uncle Sam's neck for collar. Leave slightly open in front. |
8. Hat:
a. Cut a 6 1/2" cardboard circle. Cut 3 1/2" circle out of center. Glue in center of 8" square of navy felt.
b. Cut slits around and in center of circle. Glue tabs to cardboard. (Diagram 4)
c. Glue back of circle to another 8" square of navy felt. Trim around outside of circle. Cut slits on inside of circle.
d. Cut a 4" x 14" piece of cardboard. Glue to center of 6" x 15" piece of navy felt. Fold down long edges and glue to cardboard. Roll into cylinder and overlap short edges. Glue together securely.
e. Trace top opening of hat onto cardboard. Cut out and glue to another piece of navy felt 1 1/2" larger all around. Fit top on hat and glue excess felt inside hat so top sits flat. Glue brim onto bottom of hat. Glue hat to head. |
9. Hair & Face:
a. Fold 4" x 12" piece of quilt batting in half lengthwise and glue to head around bottom of hat with cut edges against hat.
b. Cut goatee out of 2 layers of quilt batting using Pattern A.
c. Cut out French Vanilla nose using Pattern B. Pinch into nose shape and glue to face.
d. Glue goatee under nose.
e. Glue eyes next to nose.
f. Cut 2 French vanilla eyelids using Pattern F. Glue in place. |
10. Flag:
a. Glue three 1/2" x 10" white felt stripes onto 4" x 10" piece of red felt.
b. Cut out navy star using Pattern C. Glue to front of flag.
c. Fold flag in half and glue dowel along fold. Glue front and back of flag together. |
11. Trims:
a. Glue 2" x 15" red felt strip onto hat for hatband.
b. Cut 2 large white felt stars using Pattern D. Glue one onto front of hatband and one onto front of body.
c. Glue 1" x 7" strip of red felt around each shoe.
d. Cut 2 small stars using Pattern E and glue one to top of each shoe.
e. Decorate stars with dots and stripes of Gold Glitter Paint. (Diagram 5)
f. Let dry. Glue flag into Uncle Sam's hand. |
