Lemon yellow: Legs, crescent, stars and buttons
Orange: Heart, stockings, dress trim. For stockings, use tape to mask 1/4" strips on front and sides of legs. Paint stripes. For dress trim, use tape and newspaper to mask stripes on bottom of dress. Paint stripes. (Requires several coats). Remove tape.
Yellow dimensional: Swirls and ruffle on dress. |
5. Assembling witch:
*Note: When using toothpicks, apply glue to both toothpick and mating surfaces. Glue toothpick, leaving 3/4" protruding, onto center bottom of hat cone. Centered left to right and back edges aligned, glue cone to disc. Again leaving 3/4" protruding, glue toothpick into center top (large end) of face, 1/2" from back. Centered left to right and back edges aligned, glue face to hat brim. Using toothpick as before, position and glue nose to face.
Glue 3/16" dowel halfway into bottom of face, 1/2" from back. Glue protruding dowel into top center edge of dress.
Using awl, make holes in center of both ends of upper arms, lower arms and legs, tops of boots and small ends of hands. Make (1) hole in center bottom edges of dress sleeves. Make (2) holes in bottom edge of dress, each 3-1/2" in from sides.
Cut (20) 10" lengths of jute. Apply small amount of glue to (1) end of each piece of jute. Allow glue to cool slightly, then damp fingers and smooth to stiffen ends. Insert needle nozzle into each hole, one at a time. Fill hole with glue, twist a stiffened end of a jute piece into hole and allow glue to set.
With bow knots, tie witch parts together leaving 3/4" between pieces. Apply a spot of glue to back sides of knots and trim tails.
Glue stars and crescent to hat, buttons to boots heart to dress, broom to dress and hands to broom.
For hair, cut (2) 5" lengths of garland. Cut each piece between rows of stitches. Fold long pieces in half. With folds forward and stitches up, glue these in place at sides of face against hat brim. Layer, cut to fit and glue short pieces in place for bangs. Fluff hair with fingers.
Glue eye buttons in place.
Draw mouth with black dimensional paint.
Tie a bundle of (5) strands of raffia around neck with bow at center front. Trim tails as desired.
For hanger, use awl to make (2) 1/4" deep holes 2" apart and 1" below top of dress in center back. Cut a 6" length of jute, tie knots in each, leaving 1/4" ends. Stiffen ends and glue into holes as before, except push knots into holes. |
